They knew this from the questionnaire all jurors had to complete on arrival at the courthouse. I had jury duty last week – the infamous jury duty of New York City, where horror stories abound of weeks and months in jury duty. But this was the first day of duty and a case had been brought to my jury pool. And the attorneys were sampling the pool for their case.
