The biopharmaceutical supply chain has been remodeled, like the continents, by seismic shifts in the pharma landscape. In the past, pharmaceutical companies were vertically integrated, manufacturing all their own raw materials, ingredients and bulk products in their own plants, and doing their own packaging. But almost all drug material sold in the USA now is manufactured offshore, and imported via an increasingly complex global supply network.
