Top 4 Ways to get into Science Policy

There are a few common ways to get into Science Policy.  They each have their pluses and minuses.

1. AAAS Science and Technology Policy Fellowship Program, including affiliate organizations for Congressional Fellowships. By far, the most well-known way to get into science policy. Probably the best way to jump start a career, but highly competitive. Pay starts at the GS-12 level and you can be involved at some of the highest levels of government. Placements in Congress, as well as the Executive Branch and the Judicial branch.  Placement agency determines whether you will technically be a contractor, fellow, or employed by the federal government.
